Welcome to Recycled Beats                               education@recycledbeats.co.uk

Since forming in 2007, Recycled Beats (previously known as The Narcoleptic Penguin) have been playing a variety of international rhythms on reclaimed materials, performing at all nature of gigs and festivals and also providing workshops for young people in the West Midlands.

The formal discipline required for playing orchestral instruments is removed, however it is the ability of the musicians to work and play together in a coherent and co-operative manner that turns the disregarded rubbish into an instrument.

This is reflected in our workshops, which provide participants with an accessible experience in the collaborative experience of music making, inviting them to play as a group rather than as individuals, and to explore musical devices such as dynamics, tempo, breakdowns, and texture in a fun and playful way in which drummers of all abilities can further their knowledge and sense of achievement.

Our performances range from The Big Chill to The Marrs’ Bar, and as facilitators we have worked with a range of ages and skills, from primary schools to youth centres to local parks.

We provide a number of set workshops but we are adaptable to group size, participant age, ability and timescale.
